Christmas traditions and Customs

    HELLO !

We are Ana and Marusa. We live in Kokrica in Slovenia. We will write on short  how we celebrate our Christmas.
We celebrate Christmas at 25th of  December at home. That day is full of happiness and love. Our cookies and cakes smell delicious! They are all home made. We get the presents on that day. That is a custom in our families. Mothers plan the celebration in a circle of friends and family. Two days before the Christmas we get the Christmas tree. It has to be beautiful. We make decorates and decorate the tree.
Our sisters go shopping for Christmas party. We invite only the closest friends to the dinner. Children give socks under Christmas tree. At 7 o’clock we gather in the living room for dinner. Our dinner is very delicious. After dinner we sing a  songs. Because Christmas is the catholic holiday we go to church. Then we wish a Merry  to everyone. At 2 o’clock we go home and then we have a party. We open the presents and go to bed late in the morning

Like every  country in the World, our country also celebrates Christmas. We celebrate Christmas on 25th  December. But to make Christmas more interesting we have Father Christmas who brings us presents every year, and for exchange, we give him some money for food for his reindeers. Because Christmas is something special, the food has to be special too. That is why that day the kitchen smells very good. Mother is baking biscuits and all sort of good food. Then when everything is ready, we eat in the kitchen or in the dining room. But, we all known, that on Christmas nobody should be alone, so we always invite   some friends.
When we finish eating, we go to the living room, where we have Christmas Tree. We decorate the tree and all the house a day before Christmas Evening.
And because Christmas is a Christian celebration we also hang advent wreaths on the door.
At midnight we go to church, where we pray and sing a lot. And when we come home we talk a little and then we go to bed.

        Christmas in Slovenia

My country celebrates Christmas. In my country Christmas is in winter. We celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. Our Christmas patron is Father Christmas. He brings us presents. We don’t leave anything out for his reindeers. On the evening of 24th December we eat our Christmas dinner. We eat our Christmas meal at home. The whole family gathers at the meal. We don’t have special recipes for Christmas. Mother usually makes a cake called “potica”. We decorate the Christmas Tree and the rooms in the house are decorated too. We decorate them two days before Christmas. Sending Christmas cards is a part of our tradition. They are usually sent a week before Christmas. The children make advent calendars, and advent wreaths are hung on the doors or kept somewhere in the house. Christmas is a Christians celebration, so we all attend the midnight mass for Christmas. Singing of Christmas Carols is not a part of my tradition, but we have a lot folk songs talking about Christmas. We also have a craft of making Christmas wreath. I’m enclosing one.
